„Sôritês - The Modulation of an Indeterminacy“ deals with the raw material sand and explores the nature and design possibilities of this finite resource by using a constructed apparatus. Here, the sand functions both as a drive and as a design element, creating new, non-repeatable visual formations with each use. The question of an adequate amount of sand in relation to the duration of the activated apparatus is central here and sensitises the viewer to an appropriate use of resources and engagement with the raw material sand.

The design object is based on a funnel mechanism that is connected to various components. By adding sand, a pile of sand is created on a round plate, which activates the light of a luminaire. The plate finally empties and the light goes out. The object can be divided into three acts:  Act 1 involves the scooping of the sand as a symbol of dependence on resources.  Act 2 describes the modulation of the sand as it grows into a pile on the plate and then falls into a container.  Act 3 emphasizes the indeterminacy both in terms of the number of sand particles and the time used for the light.

The design object is intended to raise awareness of the preciousness of sand as a finite resource and its connection to life and, in times of climate change, takes on an ethical and political dimension.
